Topeka – Today, Governor Laura Kelly announced that her administration will begin the application process for the COVID-19 Retail Store Property Tax Relief Program in October. She urged small business owners in Kansas to verify that they are registered for a federally unique entity identifier (UEI) before the application process opens.
“The financial assistance provided through this program will provide Kansas entrepreneurs with the resources to continue to grow and invest in their businesses,” Governor Laura Kelly said. “Once the program’s application portal opens in October, proactive verification of UEI enrollment will help small business owners access this relief quickly and efficiently.”
In June, Governor Kelly signed bipartisan House Bill 2136 to invest $50 million to help small businesses recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The COVID-19 Retail Store Property Tax Relief Program is funded by the federal American Relief Program Act (ARPA), which requires businesses to complete UEI registration to be eligible for assistance. UEI registration ensures the accuracy of information and the security of funds used for the program.
The UEI is a unique 12-character identifier assigned to all entities and is used as the primary means of federal awards and identification of entities doing business with the federal government. UEI is distributed free of charge through the Federal Awards Management System website (SAM.gov).
If a business is registered with SAM.gov, no additional steps are required to obtain a UEI. UEI enrollment can be confirmed by logging into SAM.gov and verifying that the entity’s entity status is “Active Enrollment.”
Please note that due to the recent increase in the number of entities registered with SAM.gov, it may take up to 25 business days to process new registrations. For any questions related to registering with SAM.gov or obtaining a UEI, please contact the Federal Help Desk at 866-606-8220.
The Kansas Department of Revenue will soon provide information detailing the application process and dates for the COVID-19 Retail Store Property Tax Relief Program. The application will provide definitions, explain the aid process in detail, and state exactly what information must be submitted to support the application.
Claimants must submit an application for this financial assistance by April 15, 2023.
