According to GlobalData’s Job Analytics database, IT recruitment activity in Australia’s tech sector fell by 1.4 per cent in August 2022 compared to the previous month.
Overall hiring in the industry increased by 0.39% in August 2022 compared to July 2022.
The share of IT roles in total hiring activity in the tech industry was 29.53% in August 2022, down 0.61% from the average share over the past three months.
Top 5 job categories for IT recruitment activity in Australia’s tech sector in August 2022
In August 2022, the top five jobs accounted for 95.88 per cent of overall IT recruitment activity in Australia’s tech sector across all jobs.
1) The share of software and web developers, programmers and testers in August 2022 was 37.05%, up 9.09% from the previous month.
2) The share of computer and information analysts was 28.13%, a decrease of 5.2% from the previous month.
3) Database and network administrators and architects hold 15.44% share, up 11.11% from July 2022.
4) The share of computer support specialists was 9.26%, up 10.2% from the previous month.
Top 5 tech companies in Australia for IT recruitment activity in August 2022
Based on the number of jobs tracked by GlobalData, the top five companies have collectively increased their share of overall IT hiring activity in the Australian tech sector by an average of 39.56% in August 2022 compared to July 2022.
Infosys posted 78 IT jobs in August 2022, down 27.78% month-on-month, followed by ICF International with 76 jobs and flat growth. Microsoft, with 39 IT jobs, and Cognizant Technology Solutions, with 38 jobs, recorded a 160% increase and a 9.52% drop, respectively, while Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson recorded 23 job postings in August 2022, a 35.29% increase.
Junior job postings dominate August 2022
The proportion of junior positions was 64.15%, an increase of 21.43% from July 2022. Intermediate positions accounted for 25.04%, down 17.98% from the previous month.
In third place were entry-level job advertisements with a share of 9.43%, up 1.85% from July 2022, while senior positions accounted for 1.37%, up 14.29% month-on-month.
