The Backyard Initiative
Launched in 2008, the Backyard Initiative was a successful partnership between residents of seven south Minneapolis neighborhoods and Allina Health, facilitated by the Cultural Wellness Center. This initiative aimed to improve health by enhancing residents’ capacity to strengthen their own well-being. Building on this success, the Backyard Community Health Hub now offers activities such as motion, natural self-care, and culinary wellness, leveraging connectedness and cultural practices to better serve communities. These initiatives exemplify the power of community engagement in Minneapolis, demonstrating that through collaboration, inclusivity, and proactive efforts, we can build a city where every resident feels connected and valued.
