Minneapolis has launched an ambitious $323.1 million construction season, initiating 37 capital projects aimed at revitalizing the city’s infrastructure. This extensive program, spearheaded by the Public Works Department, addresses critical areas such as street reconstruction, bridge repairs, utility upgrades, and flood mitigation efforts.
Key Components of the 2026 Construction Program
- Street Improvements: The plan includes resurfacing approximately 19.6 miles of streets and fully reconstructing 4.8 miles of roadway, enhancing transportation routes citywide.
- Water System Upgrades: Efforts will focus on replacing about 1,827 lead water service lines and rehabilitating 17.5 miles of water mains, ensuring safer and more reliable water access for residents.
- Bridge and Structural Work: Significant projects involve the restoration of three Midtown Greenway bridges, continued reconstruction of the 10th Avenue South bridge, and structural work on the Nicollet Avenue bridge over Minnehaha Creek.
