BOSTON — New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge hit his season-leading 56th and 57th homers in a 10-inning 7-6 win over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday night.
Judge played in New York’s 142nd game, four years away from tying the American League record set by Roger Maris in 1961 with the Yankees.
In the sixth inning, Judge’s tee shot on the opposite side of Nick Pivetta tied the score at 3-3. Xander Bogaerts responded with a one-run shot of his own on Boston’s next hit to put the Red Sox back at the top.
But Judge tied it again in the eighth, pinning a hanging slider from Garrett Whitlock on the green monster in left field.
Judge’s home run was his first in six games. It also marked the 10th multi-home run game of the season, just one shy of the AL record set by Hank Greenberg in 1938 and Judge’s 26th career game.
He hit 0.310 with 1.105 OPS. He has 32 RBIs in his last 37 games.
New York extended its AL East lead to six games.
