A business degree blends science, engineering, and liberal arts to provide future business leaders and entrepreneurs with a new competitive advantage
West Lafayette, Ind. – Purdue University’s next major move in a decade-long series of major strategic investments will reimagine its current School of Management as a new business school that will redefine business Leaders prepare for today’s technology-driven world and tomorrow’s unknown.
Plans for the new college were announced on Friday (September 23), which will be backed by substantial university investment, as well as a major fundraising campaign aimed at redesigning a leading business school for tomorrow’s leaders and entrepreneurs Get ready to build on the hallmarks of Purdue education, including STEM disciplines and business analytics.
“Students at Purdue’s new business school will receive a well-rounded education that includes the history, philosophy, and economic theory of the free market system, as well as a solid foundation in the liberal arts and the communication skills that come with it,” said Purdue President Mitch Daniel said. “They’ll enter the world proud of their chosen career and well-prepared for leadership and management excellence in the most technologically complex fields.”
Purdue’s School of Management has grown nearly 33 percent since 2019 amid a nationwide decline in college enrollment. Purdue believes now is the time to capitalize on this momentum with a new business school that will further expand the student body and faculty, as well as double the size of the facility through expansions and renovations.

School will build on Purdue’s recently opened Integrated Business and Engineering (IBE) degree, top-ranked business analytics program, new Dean V. White real estate finance program, On Friday night, Marshall and Susan Larsen gave a new gift of $10 million to further advance the Larsen Leadership Institute, creating a competitive advantage for students to take the next giant leap in the future of business.
The Purdue School of Management and the Graduate School have long been named after Krannert, and the new entity as a whole will initially be called the Purdue School of Business. Purdue’s first phase of improvements, planned for fall 2023, include growth in student enrollment and an increase in targeted faculty, as well as an increase in curriculum and experiential education.
Scientific advancement in nearly every sector of the economy requires business leaders who can understand not only the data in front of them, but where the next breakthrough might come from. Students who master collecting big data and using it to drive business decisions will become the most valuable working professionals today and in the future. Graduates of Purdue’s new business school will be uniquely positioned to bring discoveries to market, scale innovation, and influence social change.

Historically, Purdue University has celebrated many graduates as CEOs of Fortune 500 companies, a position currently held by eight alumni as measured by academic impact. The move to a new business school further builds on Purdue’s standards of excellence, starting with engineering, where both graduate (No. 4) and undergraduate (No. 9) degree programs are nationally ranked.
Purdue was the only university to be recently named a “Significant Brand” by Fast Company, and was recently named the No. 1 university in the United States, along with well-known names such as Ford, McDonald’s, Nike, and 3M. 4 most trusted public universities by Morning Consult. It has also been named a Top 10 public university by The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education and has been named a Top 10 Most Innovative University by U.S. News & World Report for five consecutive years.
In the past five years, Purdue University has grown 23 percent to just over 50,000 students. It ranks in the top 5 for graduating STEM majors – 71% of its 2022 graduates earned a STEM degree.
