Junior Chloe Legg, a native of Bainbridge, Ohio, first discovered Shawnee State as a participant in the College Credit Plus (CCP) program in high school. The tour of campus and the fact that her sister also attended and graduated from college made it easy for her to decide to attend.
“I always knew I wanted to go to SSU, the campus was beautiful and the people were nice,” she said. “Visiting the campus from time to time allows me to see myself as a real student.”
When it came to choosing a major, Leger wasn’t sure what he wanted to do at first. With her love of technology, she tried different courses before deciding to choose Information Systems Management.
“I grew up playing video games and was addicted to new products released by Apple, so I’ve always had some curiosity about technology and wanted to learn more,” she said. “In Shawnee, they had a lot of opportunities. With the help of some great consultants, I ended up getting into information systems management.”
The opportunity to connect with her classmates and share her love of technology with them and her faculty is one of Legg’s favorite projects. Knowing that the field has high job security, she is excited to see the different directions she can pursue her degree throughout her career.
“I came into this project with very little knowledge of computers in general, let alone how to create a complete website, take apart a computer and rebuild it, and how to program it,” she said. “So far, in my professors and With the help of my classmates, I’ve been able to do all of these things. If I can give anyone considering this important piece of advice, it’s to not be afraid to ask questions.”
SSU’s Information Systems Management program provides students with a solid core of business knowledge and technical skills in the field they wish to pursue. This degree can be completed as a stand-alone degree or as a 2+2 program leading to an Associate of Applied Business with a concentration in Information Technology Management. Graduates can find jobs as web developers, web technicians, operators, computer programmers or microcomputer specialists, and the business background this degree provides gives students the opportunity to pursue technical and managerial careers in organisations.
