Doha: The municipal government, represented by the Ministry of Agricultural Research, organized a lecture entitled “Using Bioengineering Technology to Express Halophyte Gene to Enhance the Expression of Plant Salt Tolerance Gene”.
Lectures are delivered by Dr. Mona Ali Al Balushi is an expert in the Department of Biotechnology.
The use of technology is aimed at overcoming some of the environmental issues that plants face, including salinity, which negatively affects plants at different stages of growth, and is thought to be one of the factors affecting plant productivity. Studies have shown that salt tolerance genes in halophytes help improve salt tolerance in other crops. The plants were tested under the influence of sodium chloride for four weeks for evaluation, and the genes for salt tolerance in halophytes were found after four weeks of exposure to salt stress.
